Posted on

Repaired stucco is usually easier than you think it will be. Before you can repaint the outside of your home, if you have stucco, you need to do some basic touch up. That is, you can't simply paint over cracked or crumbling stucco. It is best to patch and repair your stucco if it is peeling away from your concrete walls as soon as possible. If you wait too long, water and dirt can get underneath the stucco, and create even larger problems. This article explains the best tools and techniques for patching and repairing stucco.

What You Need

Pretty much everything you need to patch and repair stucco can be purchased at a normal home improvement store. Most importantly, you need the stucco patch, which comes in large gallon sized tubs. You also need a large rubber float and tiling sponge. It is also helpful if you have a 5 gallon tub that you can fill with water. You will also need a metal blade putty knife.

Prepping Before Applying the Patch

Before you can patch your damaged area,  you need to prep it. It is very common that stucco will bubble up and peel away from the wall. So, wherever there are holes, the edges of the stucco can be loose and falling away from the concrete wall. So, you might want to use your putty knife to scrape any loose stucco away from the concrete.

Applying the Patch

Basically, he is the float to get the dispatch out of the tub spread it onto the damaged area. With a wet sponge, you used circular motions to rub the stucco down and blended in. The weather of the sponges, the smoother the texture you leave behind. With your sponge a little dryer, you will leave behind a rougher texture. So, you have to do some testing in figure out the perfect amount of moisture that will create a texture match with your existing stucco. This will definitely take some trial and air, but, as you can see, is not particularly difficult to figure out.

In order to complete any stucco patch job, you need to prime the patched area with several coats of the exterior primer. Then, you can paint it. It is very likely that you will need to paint your entire wall, because just painting the patched area will result in colors that don't match very well. Contact a company, like MR.
