Expectations Of Commercial Cleaning Services For Large Libraries And Small Colleges

Posted on

Organizations like city libraries and small private colleges may decide to contract with commercial cleaning services rather than hire someone to do this work. They may need a relatively low level of daily janitorial services along with additional but less frequent tasks.

Small Colleges and Large Libraries

A surprising number of colleges throughout the nation have fewer than 500 students. These may not need a full custodial staff. A few individuals from a commercial cleaning business may be able to manage all the projects.

Similarly, large city libraries located in heavily populated metropolitan areas could receive hundreds of visitors on the busiest days. Some of their patrons might spend hours in the building using the Internet, reading magazines, or studying with a group.

Frequent Tasks

As with other business and organizational clients, a janitorial crew is expected to complete the more common tasks frequently or perhaps each time the workers are there. That includes spray cleaning of desks and tables, dusting, and sweeping and wet-mopping hard-surface flooring. Carpeting must be vacuumed and bathrooms cleaned. They may need to clean a lunchroom and break rooms. The crew empties wastebaskets throughout the building and places new liners.

Occasional Projects

The building will occasionally require window washing inside and outside. Washing the interior walls now and then could be requested of the crew. Professional-level carpet cleaning likely will be necessary now and then, though not all cleaning services do that level of carpet cleaning.

Special Events

Additional service may be required after special events. A conference at the college brings in many attendees and presenters. Weekly story reading for kids at the city library means a big group of children gathered there. These types of organizations may hold fundraisers such as silent auctions. There might be book clubs and movie nights.

Scheduling

Many janitorial crews must do the bulk of their work outside of regular business hours. In office buildings, for instance, they can't interrupt employees with noise and other intrusions. The same is true for libraries and small educational facilities. These organizations cannot have custodians vacuuming when people are expecting a quiet atmosphere. Library cleaning workers will likely be asked to arrive after the facility closes for the day. This could mean beginning the job late in the evening.

When developing a schedule for the crew, the person in charge makes the work expectations clear. That's the case for daily projects as well as those needed less frequently. Once a schedule has been drafted, it's time to contact a service for pricing. Reach out to a commercial cleaning service for more information.
